| Material Highlight of the Week – The Kneaded Eraser |
![]() |
| Hans Kitty, Sleeping in Charcoal. This drawing is done on grey toned paper with charcoal and a kneaded eraser. Most of the cat’s form comes from toning the paper with charcoal, while the areas that catch the light are simply the charcoal lifted away with the eraser back to the paper color. The lines were done last and kept to a minimum to barely suggest Hans’ favorite position. One of the things I enjoy most about charcoal is that sometimes what you remove is just as important as what you put down. A few erased highlights and active lines were all that was needed to bring Hans to life. Happy drawing, -Chris |
